What is cPanel?

cPanel is the control panel for your hosting service. It brings common website and email management tools together in one place. The exact tools shown depend on your hosting plan.

Common tasks in cPanel

  • Manage website files: Use File Manager to upload, download, rename and organise files. FTP or SFTP can be useful for transferring many files.
  • Create email accounts: Open the email section to create mailboxes for your domain, manage passwords and check mailbox storage.
  • Manage domains: Depending on your plan, you may be able to manage subdomains, domain aliases and document roots.
  • Manage databases: Use the database tools to create databases and database users. phpMyAdmin is used to view and manage MySQL or MariaDB data.
  • Configure PHP: Select an available PHP version or adjust supported PHP options.
  • Manage SSL: View certificate status and use the SSL tools provided by your hosting service.
  • Create or restore backups: Use the backup features available in your plan, and keep a separate copy of important data where possible.

Where should you start?

If you are new to cPanel, start with the login guide. For a specific task, use the related guide for email setup, FTP/SFTP, databases, PHP or backups.

Important notes

Changing files, databases or PHP settings can affect your live website. Download a backup before making major changes. Never share your cPanel password, and do not delete files or databases unless you know what they are used for.

Some options mentioned here may not be available on every hosting plan. If a tool is missing, check your service details or contact support.
